At A Bay to Remember we’re off!
We’re delighted to share that we’ve been back in the water since the 1st of April, marking the start of another exciting season of wildlife watching adventures along our beautiful coastline. While we’re still waiting for the first dolphin sightings of the year, we’ve been fortunate enough to spot a variety of other fascinating marine creatures that make each trip memorable. The most notable recent sighting has been a solitary porpoise, which was a real highlight for our crew and passengers alike. Seeing these elusive, shy mammals is always a thrill, even if it’s just one—each encounter reminds us of the rich biodiversity that calls these waters home.
One of the most impressive aspects of our current sightings has been the sheer number of seals we’ve encountered. It’s astonishing to see so many seals gathered in one place, and on recent trips, we’ve counted between 100 and 200 seals at a time. These incredible creatures are often seen lounging on rocks or bobbing in the water, with sleek bodies catching the sunlight as they rest or survey their surroundings. Watching such a large congregation of seals is a spectacle that never gets old; it speaks volumes about the health and richness of our local marine environment. These gatherings are not only a delight to observe but also serve as an important reminder of the vital role seals play in the marine ecosystem.
Alongside the seals, we’ve been spotting good numbers of Guillimots and Razorbills, two seabird species that are always a pleasure to observe during our trips. The Guillimots, with their distinct black and white plumage and graceful diving behavior, are a sight to behold. They often dive deeply into the water, hunting for small fish, showcasing their agility and skill as seabirds. Razorbills, with their striking black plumage and thick, hooked beak, are equally captivating. They tend to gather in colonies along the cliffs and coastal rocks, but we’re fortunate to see them in flight or resting on the water’s surface during our excursions. Their presence indicates a healthy marine environment, rich with the fish and small marine creatures they rely on for food.
Overall, our season has begun with a fantastic display of marine life, and we’re excited to see how it continues to develop in the coming months. Each trip brings new surprises, whether it’s a fleeting glimpse of a porpoise, a large gathering of seals, or a flock of seabirds soaring overhead. Our crew is dedicated to providing an engaging and educational experience for all our visitors, sharing their knowledge about the local wildlife and the importance of conserving these precious habitats. We’re committed to fostering a deeper appreciation for the natural world, and every sighting helps reinforce the importance of protecting these fragile ecosystems.
As we move further into spring and summer, we’re hopeful that dolphin sightings will soon begin. Until then, we’re grateful for the abundance of other amazing creatures we’re fortunate to observe. We look forward to welcoming more visitors onboard, sharing these incredible moments, and continuing our journey to explore the wonders beneath the waves. Whether you’re a seasoned wildlife enthusiast or a curious newcomer, A Bay to Remember promises a memorable adventure filled with awe-inspiring sights and inspiring encounters with our stunning marine life.
