Well Easter is over

But thankfully the sunshine is still here!

One thing that seems to catch out the less experienced bird watcher is the difference between a Shag and a Cormorant. When they are together, it is easy to tell them apart, but on their own it can fool you sometimes (especially when they are young). At this time of the year the Shag makes life easy with its distinctive “shaggy” tuft on the top of its head, as can be seen from the photo below. The 2nd picture is of a Cormorant and conveniently there is a Shag in the background to clearly show the difference.
